X Invasion Version 1.1

MODES OF PLAY

Extraterrestrials and UFOs have invaded the city of San Francisco and it’s up to you and your trusty Corsair single prop fighter plane to save the city.

You may choose to play in one of two modes:
  1. Career Mode
  2. Timed Mode
Career Mode will keep accruing your score over every session of play. You will be able to achieve various levels by advancing through stages as your score reaches certain milestones. As you advance through the stages you will be awarded with medals of honor and achievement increasing in difficulty and importance as more and more time passes.

Timed Mode is a single session play in which you can choose a predefined time interval and try to achieve the highest score and accuracy rating as possible. You have a choice between a 5 minute session, a 10 minute session and a 20 minute session.

In both modes of play (Career and Timed), you can compare scores and accuracy data with other pilots who have taken on the X Invasion.

REGISTRATION

In order to share your score and view other pilots’ scores, you will need to register by creating a username for your account. Submitting you email address is optional, but we will need to contact you if you are the winner of one of our periodic high score contests. The registration process is initialized the first time you choose the “Scores” button from the main menu.

LEARNING TO FLY

Upon pressing the “Launch” button on the main menu, your game is initialized and if you are playing in Timed Mode your countdown will begin. You can accelerate your aircraft by pressing and holding the right side of the map view. When this area is pressed an accelerator slider will appear allowing you to increase or decrease the speed of your aircraft.

MANEUVERING YOUR AIRPLANE

Once you have taken flight you can control the pitch of your aircraft and turn your aircraft by adjusting the orientation of your device.

To control the pitch (move the aircraft higher or lower), you can tilt the device backward and forward respectively.

To move the aircraft left or right, rotate your device to the left or right, similar to a steering wheel.

FIRING YOUR WEAPONS

Once you have mastered the art of flight you are ready to shoot your lasers at invading UFOs. As you fly your aircraft, you can position the target crosshair over an enemy ship. The target crosshair lets you know what is exactly in front of you. If you fire at an enemy that is in the crosshair, you will likely hit it. However, for faster moving enemies you will need to lead the target.

To fire your laser weapons, simply tap anywhere on the screen. Each time you tap the screen, twin lasers will be fired. You have unlimited ammunition. Some target may require multiple shots to destroy them.

YOUR SCORE

Points are awarded for every successful hit your fire at an alien ship. Various ships will award different points based on the difficulty of the strike (ie distance from target and speed at which it is moving). You can view your current score in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Opposite the score will be the total time played or time remaining depending on which mode of play you select.

INFO PANEL

Your Info Panel is located at the top left of the screen. It contains information about your speed (MPH), altitude (FT), health (%), and number of planes left. A game ends when all of your planes have been destroyed. Also, you can open or close the map display by clicking on the Info Panel.

HEALTH

Whenever your plane is hit by enemy fire, you make a hard landing, or hit an enemy mine you health decreases. Your plane will explode when your health reaches 0%. Certain alienships will leave POWER-UPs when they are destroyed. Simply fly into a POWER-UP icon to collect the power and increase your health percentage.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

You will be piloting your plane over a geographically accurate view of the San Francisco Bay Area. Major cities include San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, California. You can fly over and around famous landmarks, streets, parks, and water bodies. You’ll be spending most of your time firing at the alien ships, but also take time to explore the natural scenery.

PAUSING OR QUITING GAME PLAY

If you want to pause or quit a game, simply press the ‘X’ icon in the upper right corner of the map screen.

TIPS
  • You can display (or hide) an overview map of the entire region by tapping the green compass bar in the upper left hand corner of the map display.
  • You can mute the sounds for the game by tapping the sound icon located in the upper right corner of the main menu.
  • Depending on the position you are in when playing the game, the tilt of your device which corresponds to level flight may vary. When entering the map screen, hold your device at a comfortable neutral position. The game will calibrate this position to correspond to level flight. If you need to recalibrate the tilt, simply pause and reenter the game.

  • At the bottom of the map screen is an information bar. Occasionally it will scroll hints, tips, and up-to-date updates about X-Invasion.
